How to make me cry

Remind me that this still happens, all the time. Everywhere.

Because my pound of flesh wasn't enough.

Because until we all speak out and insist on being heard, it still goes on and on and on.

That is so heartbreakingly heart-achingly sad.

That site has -- sadly -- developed a lot since I last looked at it. She's doing a great thing with that blog. Thank you for linking. I'm thankful to have found it again.

There are men who hate this behavior and are decent, loving and kind. Why don't they speak up? Why don't men tell these men that they are despicable? Why don't fathers stand up for daughters and sons, wives and mothers?

There are men who do speak up - and there are women who perpetrate this abuse too - on sons, on partners, on daughters.

It is not a gender specific hate crime...and that is what it is - a Hate crime.

The more we speak up , the more we accept people who talk about this, rather than look down or away, the wider the space for speaking these things becomes...

This is a problem which has such insidious and deep roots in our humanity that it is going to take the effort of everyone to get it dug up.

Rape, sexual assault and abuse - all crimes of power and hate.
